ok. this is a collection notice from granite point, not the gym. the gym sold the debt.

the important part isn't the $1,240.18. it's the 30 days. that clock started when you received it, not when they printed it.

so what do i do

you ask them to verify it, in writing, inside the 30 days. that's your right, and they're supposed to pause collection until they answer.

fair warning, not every outfit follows that cleanly. but it puts it on the record, and a lot of these die right there because nobody can produce the paper.

three things most people don't know

your 30 days start the day the letter shows up. not the date printed on it.
you have to ask in writing. a phone call doesn't count.
the company writing to you often isn't who you owed. they bought the debt from them.
